Bengal Kitten Care Guide UK — Everything New Owners Need to Know

Preparing Your Home for a Bengal Kitten

Before your Bengal kitten arrives, it is important to prepare your home to ensure a safe, comfortable, and stimulating environment. Bengal cats are naturally curious and highly active — they will explore every corner of their new home with great enthusiasm.

Essential Equipment

Before your kitten arrives, you will need: a high-sided litter tray, high-quality litter, food and water bowls, a suitable bed or igloo, a sturdy scratching post, age-appropriate interactive toys, a cat carrier, and a suitable cat tree for climbing and observation.

Feeding Your Bengal Kitten

Bengal cats thrive on a high-protein diet that reflects their wild heritage. At Bengal Kittens Breeders Home, our kittens are weaned onto a combination of high-quality raw food and premium wet food. We recommend maintaining this diet initially to avoid digestive upset during the transition to their new home.

Feeding Schedule

Young Bengal kittens of 12 to 16 weeks typically require three to four small meals per day. As they grow, this can be reduced to two meals daily. Fresh water should always be available. We advise against a purely dry food diet for Bengal cats, as high-protein wet or raw food better supports their urinary health and overall condition.

Settling Your Bengal Kitten In

Our kittens arrive in their new homes already litter trained, vaccinated, microchipped, and fully socialised. However, every new environment takes a little adjustment. We recommend initially confining your kitten to one room, allowing them to grow in confidence before exploring the wider home. Most of our kittens settle within hours — a testament to the quality of our socialisation programme.

Health and Veterinary Care

Register your Bengal kitten with a local veterinary practice as soon as possible. Arrange a health check within the first week of arrival. Your kitten will arrive with their full vaccination record — your vet will advise on booster timing. Annual health checks, dental care, and appropriate parasite control are essential throughout your Bengal's life.

Enrichment and Mental Stimulation

Bengal cats are among the most intelligent of all domestic cat breeds. They require significant mental stimulation and enrichment to thrive. Interactive puzzle feeders, wand toys, climbing structures, and regular play sessions are essential for a happy, healthy Bengal. A bored Bengal will find their own entertainment — which may not always align with your expectations.

Grooming

Bengal cats have a short, dense, remarkably low-maintenance coat. Regular gentle brushing helps remove loose hair and maintains the lustrous glitter coat that is characteristic of the breed. Most Bengals enjoy gentle grooming and it provides an excellent opportunity for bonding.
